5 Golden Rules for Post-Construction Cleaning

How can you get rid of tough construction dirt before enjoying your new home? Life-saving tips from our expert cleaning team.

5 Golden Rules for Post-Construction Cleaning

1. Proper Equipment Against Fine Dust

The excitement of moving into a new home is often overshadowed by that stubborn white construction dust covering everything. Construction dust is much finer, more volatile, and more harmful to the respiratory tract than normal house dust.

Ordinary vacuum cleaners suck up this dust and blow it right back into the air through their exhaust filters. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to use industrial-grade or dual-layer HEPA filter vacuums during the cleaning process. Otherwise, the dust you thought you cleaned will settle back onto your furniture within a few hours.

2. The Top-to-Bottom Cleaning Rule

The biggest secret of post-construction or renovation cleaning is following the right sequence. Professional teams always apply the "top-to-bottom" rule.

The work must start from the cobwebs in the ceiling corners, suspended ceiling details, and the tops of high cabinets. After dusting the walls, you should move on to the windows, then the doors, and finally the floors. If you start cleaning from the floor, you will have to clean it again due to the dirt falling while wiping the windows or the ceiling.

3. The Power and Selection of Special Chemicals

Cement, plaster, and grout residues spilled on marble or parquet floors cannot be cleaned with everyday supermarket detergents. Using stiff brushes to remove these stains will cause permanent scratches on your newly installed surfaces.

This is where professional cleaning solutions with adjusted acidic and basic values come into play. For example, applying the wrong chemical to a natural stone floor can fade its color. As Antalya Nil Cleaning, we use surface-protecting materials specific to each floor type (ceramic, granite, wood).

4. Removing Tapes from Windows and Frames

The protective tapes on newly installed PVC windows almost integrate with the frame when left under the sun for a long time. Trying to scrape these tapes with sharp tools like razors, spatulas, or knives will irreversibly scratch the glass and the frame.

The way to remove these tapes without damage is to use professional heat guns and special adhesive-removing solvents. Softening the adhesive by applying heat and then gently scraping it with wooden or plastic spatulas is the safest method.

5. The Illusion of Finishing in One Go

Many homeowners think that post-construction cleaning can be finished in a single day with a single wipe. However, a true post-construction cleaning consists of three stages:

  • Rough Cleaning: Collecting debris, large waste, and large pieces of mortar on the floor.
  • Fine Cleaning: Wiping all surfaces with chemicals, washing windows and cabinet interiors.
  • Final Touch-up: The final damp wipe done after waiting for the dust in the air to settle (usually a day later).

Instead of taking on this exhausting and detailed process alone, you can make a spotless and stress-free start in your new home by getting support from the experts.
